Here's my planet creation tutorial. I decided to share my technique of creating planets since I keep getting asked how I make mine. I think this method is a little easier and simpler than some other. The reason I didn't give a lot of information in the texture creation part is because there are a lot of tutorials out there that explain it, so I didn't find a reason to put myself through the effort of writing it in-depth.
I hope this tutorial helps you out. I tried making this easy to understand. You don't have to strictly follow these steps, you can experiment doing other things aswell. This is just a basic planet creation tutorial. I think everyone needs to develop their own ways of creating advanced planets, because otherwise everyone's planets will look the same.
Anyways, I hope you find this useful and answers some of your questions on how to create planets in Photoshop.

Serious question now, in what way does this offer anything new that previous planet tutorials don't already offer (for example, +dinyctis's method, ~ Inventor's method, ~sirgerg's method, or indeed my own? I'm not being a bitch, I just don't see anything new here.
In a more in depth criticism, personally, I don't believe in pushing out "shortcut" methods that encourage simple steps towards creating elements of art that are often the focal point, and that are indeed, such complex entities. It almost cheapens the art itself if the person isn't putting their whole back into it. They won't understand more about WHAT they're creating, and thus won't be able to create it so it looks and feels better.
There's not too much *wrong* with it, just not much right either. I could seriously break out into a rip-apart-rant on this one.
