Foretold Prophesy by dilekt Foretold Prophesy by dilekt
Finally, after a little while, i've submitted a new terraspace piece. Life was starting to become stressful. I'm proud of this one, mostly because it came out almost exactly the same way I envisioned it in my mind, and also because I tried out a new nebulae brushing technique and I think it came out successful. I learned a lot from doing this. This piece captures the "eerie" feel, alienish. The terragen render, gives the overall feel of an alien world. The inhabitants of this alien world are also technology savvy as you can see the city lights, wich means they are advanced, sort of like us humans. The bright light signifies a new era, whether it be the apocalypse or eternal peace, you decide.

Used over 150~ layers, and the psd ended up being 300mb lagging my slow computer like heck. Time taken making this piece was probably around 30~ or so hrs. It was a pleasure making this. I hope you really enjoy this and take the time to comment. Thanks.

Journey fo Souls by Michael Newton. You'll see how connected you are using your art and skills this way. It's a wonderful book. the descriptions made by people describing the "spirit Wotld" are amazing. Your art reminds me of those descriptions.

Very nice, but I think the planet's shadow is much too dark, it shouldn't be the darkest thing in the piece...

Great piece you've done here! I really love the terragen work and the starfield, you've done that brilliantly :D

If i had to offer some criticism i would say the sense of perspective on the planet is a little skewed... the glow seems a bit strong and makes the planet appear small and close rather than large and distant

Great work overall though, you certainly have a lot of talent :)

Another alyn rip? How quaint.
PlasmaX7 Featured By Owner May 21, 2005
May I ask how it is an alyn rip...? I don't see any of alyn's pictures in here, and it's not a direct copy of anything I can remember from his gallery. If this is an alyn rip, then all terraspace images are...
alexsmith Featured By Owner May 22, 2005
The sky is too much like [link] for it not to be a major idea-rip of the layout. It's almost like a re-interpretation. I mean, if Dilekt here asked Alyn's permission for him to do a re-interpretation of "Family Values," I guess that would be ok. But I doubt he has.

And I can't find where he says it, but I'm very sure Alyn doesn't like the idea of ripping a layout and just doing a shoddy version of someone else's work, then passing it off as all your own.

Make up your own mind.
PlasmaX7 Featured By Owner May 23, 2005
There is a very clear argument in the comments above that proves that this is not a rip at all, just something that proves great minds think alike. Thus I don't need to go into it myself.

And anyways, even if it is *similar* to alyn's style, (which it is, i'll admit; one of the many things that makes these two so great) isn't imitation the sincerest form of flattery? Thus alyn should be pleased!

As well, you can hardly see how it could be a rip - it is a terraspace scene with a terrain, planets, space and a nebula/lightsource. Just like all other terraspace pieces! If you compare them, the terrains are very different, so are the planets, the lightsource is not positioned the same way, it doesn't have the same atmosphere (this one's a lot lighter) - etc etc etc!

I'm not going to bother with this any more. The fact that you can't just drop an argument and be content with your own opinion, regardless of mine, is saddening. However, to just leave you with a lasting thought, consider this. Imagine you make an awesome car. Then someone comes along and builds a car. Guess what? It's JUST like yours! Then, one of his mates comes along and says "Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery! You should be pleased!" At no point did the car manufacturer say that he was imitating you to flatter you. And then this guy's mate says "look, it's just like all other cars. It's got wheels, a windscreen, lights, a boot, an engine, doors... so it's not a car rip!" How would you feel?

Like I said, make your own mind up.
PlasmaX7 Featured By Owner May 23, 2005
Well, there are many different types of car, and a lot of them look similar - I don't see people getting pissed at that.

And if you're using examples like that, imagine this: Pepsi and Coke. If people minded so much about that, then Pepsi would be made illegal or something.

But these examples are not entirely adequate, as we are discussing terraspace art, which is a very different issue.

Oh wow ... This is so beautiful. I mean, more than my simple words could describe. I've always wanted to create something like this, but I'm so new to this stuff, that it will probably be a while before I'll ever be able to create something as complex and lovely. Nice work done here. The brushing and the vision of it is just incredible.

different enough that i can tell you did it yourself though.
only issues i have are the little flying saucer, which is kinda... i dont know, childish? (not the word im looking for, but whatever) and the fact that youre so much better than i am... what is this new nebula brushing technique you speak of?

It's very nice and of course you spent many hours of work on that piece, but as already mentioned by others the style is very similar to alyn's one so I think you should make one step forward and develop your own style...

oh yes that's almost an 'alyn' ;) i see that waterfall there in the back... it lies in a totally dark area... actually you couldn't see the waterfall. another thing is that UFO - wouldn't you think that this is a bit too much?! or - 'useless'? for me this little thing takes out a big amount of seriousness. well however... beside all these small details you have 'created' something big. congrats to that. :)
tul Featured By Owner Dec 3, 2004
hey! I was gonna say it was an almost 'alyn' ;)
Its nice dilekt, but I think you have potential to make a piece that isn't an 'almost dilkt' :/
