Resurgence by dilekt Resurgence by dilekt
Been working on this piece of awhile now. Usually, I start off a piece by making the terragen render first, but this time I started with the space part first. I feel that I have more of an idea of what I want the land to look like once I have the space part done. This piece signifies life & death and how it's all an endless repeating pattern. I intended to have a lot of stars, so please don't say that it is too overcrowded with stars. I hope you like it, enjoy.

What's a terragen render? I've seen this term a lot with space art, but no one will tell me what it is.

wow its f*cking awesome, i really like light sources, rocks/asteroids ?? :P
now comes the bad part, as alyn said, terrain on the left seems to be alittle pixelated around the montain on the left, also nebula/brushing in the middle of pic is weird, i dont really like it, and glow/lighting on the planet is alittle to bright i think...

ps. and no, there is not crowded (stars in bg) :-)

Nice, but I feel the need to raise a few points.

My main gripe is that the image lacks motive, there's no particular theme to it as it were - just an assembly of different elements of space with a terragen terrain thrown in. We've all been there, but I'm just lost for a stand out focal point. A story behind it, or some idea of why you created it would bode better (I know it says life and death, but I'm not seeing it).

Stars... well I know you said not to say it's overcrowded, but I do think it gives the piece a slightly more rugged texture that could be of detriment. However the bigger issue is with the transition, where you have partly visible clouds that are haphazardly erased that would make terraspace virtually impossible (clouds don't suddenly become transparent ;)) (imo, try and move away from terragen clouds, they look 2d) - and then a rather sudden transition into stars. If you had some sparse stars in the background of the terragen render, that would ease the gradient for that.

The terragen is also... very shallow. It's as if I can see as far as those mountains, and suddenly there is nothing beyond that. Like the infamous "end of the world" syndrome except less exaggerated. It's especially prominent on the left side.

Final things are with the sharpening - I know I'm guilty of that myself, but that possibly helps me point out to you... white outline on the mountain? and some nasty pixelly dots amongst the lights above aren't fabulous. The yellow light on the planet is a little... off key - I know it's impacts, but the intensity of them would make them white hot, and I'm not seeing a yellow light source (if there was, it would affect other elements, no?). The asteroids also feel a little flat.

But it's good to see that you've come out of your break with some fresh ideas and improved skills. the main planet has a delicious texture, and I dig the feel of the light (although it feels a little too abstract brushing at times). Keep pushing it, but don't be afraid to really dig deep and go for what I like to call a "project" - something where you can spend 2 weeks + on. They're very fulfilling, and there's no doubt that you have the skill it takes to try something of a larger magnitude than this.

I very like all the space art part the shape of the nebulae is original and very well made :D But i really regret your terragen addition, it add nothing to the picture and even gives an artificial aspect that do not fit with the rest of this work.

Wow! It seems like an endless tapestry as you scroll it, yet it is beautifully balanced, one of those pieces where you can't add anything, and can't take anything away. Did I mention the colors were gorgeous, too!

Wow, beautiful. The stars are wonderful, not overcrowding at all. If anything, they really give the feeling of rising up from the land below into the sky, like passing on through death :) Definitely faving this one ^_~

I like the impacts, but the rest of the image is oversharpened and noisey in the space, yet abstract in the planets, and it doesn't really match. :)
